"Eugenijus Antanas Cukermanas is a unique figure in Lithuanian art. One of the first and most prominent representatives of pure abstraction painting (in the case of this artist, we can speak of a certain "branch" of French tachism in Vilnius), who raised non-figurative expression to the level of Heideggerian or Buberian existentialism, freed it from pseudo-sentimental or allegedly lyrical superstitions, conceptualized visual arts. But Cukermanas is above all a great painter, whose art is primarily about color and the sensory, tactile properties of paint and the sensations that arise from all of this. The architectural education of the artist has given him a certain trump card for his pictorial expression, since the released emotional impulses do not become a colored water here (from the series What I see - That's what I sing), but have a specific logical structure and beginning. Everything happens in that layer of a few millimeters between the canvas and the space covered by the gaze of the viewer-perceiver, and only then already in his consciousness. Similar to music or Japanese ink painting - logic first, then feelings... "
