Martynas Gediminas "quotes..."
Each of Martyn's paintings is a tiny opening, the author's haiku, created and articulated for each viewer. It's an intimate and personal message to the environment. (Evelina Januskaitė).
Martynas Gediminas, who obtained a master's degree in textiles at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1999, made an impressive debut at the 2nd Kaunas International Textile Biennale "Line" (1999) with the installation "Object I-III". He actively participates in group exhibitions: IX Lithuanian Textile Art Biennale "Riba#30" (2020), Užutrakis Contemporary Art Festival (2022).
The personality of the artist spreads in parallel both in the fields of textiles and painting. Lately, he has been purposefully choosing performances at art fairs: Venice Biennale (European Cultural Center) (2024), Volta New York (2023), Volta Basel (2022), Scope Miami Beach (2023, 2022) and ArtVilnius (2022, 2021, 2024). .
Hello Martynas,
I am your inner woman. I know he is watching me from afar, at a respectful distance. I don't get angry when you borrow lines from my body and use them to bend human knees from ground to ground on the canvas. You are right - there is no end to transformation, just as the beginning is hidden under the opaque "blackest black" in your paintings.
I love to lie down on my knee in your work, thank you for giving me unexpected shapes and meanings, digging into the rust and bringing the light to the surface with the refracting edges of diamonds. Which, as it should be, you are looking for while wasting precious time, which is actually meant for everyone to polish their diamonds. Every day, patiently, purposefully. It's good for me that you let me change so much, sometimes I recognize your dearest and closest ones in my forms. Woman-Mother-Father-Teacher: all of them are united by the warmth with which you remember them and whose wisdom you sometimes confidently let guide your hand on the canvas. Because together we know more than one. It doesn't matter if we're alive or gone. Try to tear the book in half - you won't succeed. A diamond is also like a book: solid, expensive and extremely beautiful result of a long and careful work. My favorite paradox of nature: brittle coal and solid diamond are denoted by the same letter C. Did you know that it is the hardest stone according to the Mohs scale, 10 out of 10? You can carve your initials on any other precious stone with a diamond.
That letter C is like the third between two extremes. The third often becomes what separates or unites. Just like the viewer is the third person between you and your work. And you won't do anything to him - only he will decide for himself whether to join or break up and go his own way after spitting.
Whether it's your previous horizontal-vertical painting, or the figurative one that's now taking over your mind, or the hybrid NFT that's pulsing with peace, never forget that I'm there. You will always find me where there is enough space. And at the same time, I am something that no fool can take away from you. Because we are both already invisible, because we ALREADY were. Like this letter to space that has already sounded. I wonder what's next?...
