Night in the Park l, 2011, oil on canvas, 70x100cm
In Alonas Štelmanas painting, night often becomes not a landscape, but an inner state, a space in which reality intertwines with an unreal feeling. In the painting Night in the Park I, the artist creates a laconic, yet emotionally suggestive image, based on a dialogue of contrasting color fields and expressive strokes. The dark, pastotically painted plane here absorbs the environment, while bright violet and pink accents emerge like signs or feelings, forming a minimalist, almost symbolic narrative. Štelmanas work is characterized by a borderline state between reality and imagination, where everyday forms transform into unreal, archetypal signs. Night in the Park I is not a specific park, but a territory of night, where light becomes a fragile possibility of a landmark, and space becomes an introspective, melancholic spectacle. The artist's expressive brushstrokes, rich colors, and deliberately simplified form create a tension between naivety and existential silence. This is characteristic of A. Štelmanas painting style.
